Hey guys and gals,

I have been completing work I put off during riding season this winter and have come to the swingarm bearings. I just want to clean, inspect, and lube them back up. I just wanted to know how necessary this really is and if I need to remove the full exhaust to be able to get the pivot shaft out.

It's a 2002 and basically sat for almost 10 years before I bought it. The swingarm has no noticeable problems and does not appear to have any freeplay or slop. The neck bearings were in sad shape for grease but were otherwise flawless when I cleaned them up.

I dunno If It was me I'd go by the service book,,
If It said It was due I'd do It..
IMO the swingarm bearings are definatly In a location
that takes a beating,,exposed to lots of stuff down there,,,,,,

 

Servicing the swing arm bearings is relatively easy to do, it should take about 3 hours re & re. A service manual will help a lot.
