Default 2004 Sportster Running Rich - Carb Working Well, Need Help!

I have a 2004 Sportster that is running real rich. CARB IS WORKING GREAT! I changed the crank position sensor and tried another ecm. Still running rich and fouling plugs almost immediately.

Anyone of any ideas what could be wrong & what to check next?

Appreciate any help!

Terri

When you say "Carb is Working Great" - how do you know this? Was it checked-out, removed, rebuild, cleaned, etc...? Obviously something's amiss & it's probably something w/the carb, or your enricher's stuck...

If the enrichner (choke) cable is broken internally, and yours is old enough to qualify, the "choke" function will be ON all the time.

I put a different carb on it that I know works and it did the same thing, ran rich and fouled plugs. As far as the the choke - it "feels" like it is working fine, not sticking, etc. but I will check out the internals.

Put a different carb on it that I know works and it did the same thing. Put the carb from the Sportster on another ride and it worked fine. It's not the carb.

Also, the fuel petcock is vacuum operated. If the diaphragm in the petcock is bad, it will allow fuel to flow through the vacuum line and back into the carb causing it to run rich.
