Simply installing the 1" lowering kit will change the angle of the shock and give you a better ride.
the bikers of antiquity eventually learned that shocks need to be forward of the axle to get a better ride. lowering blocks move the lower shock mount rearward (behind the axle)
if you look at hd's of the 70's (along with every other bike) you'll notice the lower shock mount is way forward of the axle. its proper. modern motorcycles continue this feature because the geometry allows for longer wheel travel w/ shorter shock travel.
lengthen the swingarm two inches, leave the lower shock mounts where tey are, and go to a plastic rear fender mounted to the swingarm. it'll look way cooler, ride better, and perform well.

I don't know numbers, I don't know history, I don't know why...but I have done it several times with favorable results. Have you tried it?
The pivot doesn't care where the axle is anyway. You have a shock mount and pivot...it would be the same as a stretched swingarm.
