Default Lifting Nightster on Jack?

I borrowed my dads red Sears motorcycle jack once to lift my bike over the summer. When I finally got the jack under my bike, it seems to be unbalanced from resting against the kick stand. Well, I finally got my own jack (Sears aluminum). I went to jack it up again and I can't see how you jack the bike up where's its level?

How are you guys doing it? I don't see much room under the frame. There's the kickstand bolt/pivot, kickstand switch, and 2 narrow rails? What are my contact points?

my harbor freight jack goes under from the right side
and lines up with the narrow cross pieces.
other than having to put the bike up on 1" plywood pieces
for clearance i dont have any problems

i do what 1HD1C does. roll either the front or rear wheel up on a piece of block. Slide jack in from exhaust side, and jack it up. Never had a problem before. If you go all the way up on the jack, it does seem sketchy, but it holds fine.

I have a Sears jack also and go in from the right side of the bike. As soon as I start pumping the bike up it stands up and goes level for me. When I get it to the height I want, strap the bike down for safety.

I have the Sears Red jack. I slide it where the rear part of the jack is just behind the rubber kickstand peg bumper. It works great that way. The balance of the nightster could be different.
