It may not be how the name came about, but who's to say it's not a mixture of the two? When I do look at the first production Fatboy's paint and design scheme with pictures of the Enola Gay there are many similarities between the two. If there wasn't any influence between the two I'm saying that it's one hell of a coincidence!
Is it sad that so many people had to perish to bring about the end of WWII? It surely is. But the countless lives that were saved by forcing the surrender of the empire were worth it. The fact that we preserved our freedom after being brutally attacked without provocation is something that is worth commemorating, however. Why is it wrong to celebrate victory in this day and age? Suddenly it's "cool" to loose, to be mediocre, to maintain the status quo. We used to be a people who strove to excel in everything we did. What happened that made it so unpopular and politically incorrect to be the biggest, strongest, richest, most free society on the planet?
Are you suggesting that we feel guilty for coming out on top in the second world war?

I wonder if people with these Gulfstream G150's go on Gulfstream forums and whine about an owner of a G650 that said my G150 is a "entry level jet" or a "chicks jet"?
I really have a hard time understanding these threads, seems like once a week someone has to start one then we all pat each other on the back and say "noooo,,,it's not true,,,it's not really a chick bike"
It's really pretty pathetic when you think about it.

Due to my career choice I feel pretty qualified to chime in with my 2 cents. I sell bikes of all klinds (mostly Harleys) amd we sell Sportster models to all walks of life and all genders. I'm 37, 5'-10", 230 pounds and I ride the tires off of mine. I like it because it's not a cumbersome bike, very nimble, and it does everything I need it to do. I couldn't dart in and out of traffic on my Road Kings. I have heard that Sportsters are girls bikes and I have heard that the Dynas are girl bikes too. I see plenty of women roll into the dealership on big baggers, dressers, softails & I don't hear people saying those are girl's bikes. To each their own I say. If you want a crotch rocket then go for it, if you want a bagger then go for it, if you want a sport bike then go for it. Reguardless of what kind of bike you want.....GIVE ME A CALL!! www.sellharleys.com, ask for Jim!!

And..."An automobile powered by his own four-stroke cycle gasoline engine was built in Mannheim, Germany by Karl Benz in 1885." Henry Ford didn't start building cars until 1914. Mitsubishi built its first auto in 1917, and Isuzu built their first auto in 1918.
The Americans copied the motorcycle and automobile. We did not invent them.

For those that say they only see the term Girls Bike on forums...just ran across this today.

What's worse is he's wrong. The bike in the ad is indeed a 2008 Sportster Low. LOL idiot.
I've never had anyone reffer to my Sportster as a girls bike though I have had one person hint that they would think something was wrong with me if I never wanted to move up to a bigger bike. If they ever did, I'd just say...
"No, THAT'S a girls bike...and I dare you to tell HER that and make it sound like an insult." as I pointed over to my girl on her 850lb full custom...
Though, come to think of it she DID start on a Sportster so maybe there is something to this. LOL

I guess I've been lucky and spoiled. Last summer my dad bought his 44th harley since 1981, and I've road each of them, springers, low riders, ultra classic, fat boy (which I really dug), FXRS, the ones with sidecars (that is scarey!) and I don't know what else. Since I've been 16 I've owned hondas, yamaha's, suzuki in various models. I've been able to ride anything I've ever swung my leg over, and this is due in a big part to experience on bikes, some of the bigger ones I rode but never felt real comfortable with.
this fall I bought my 883 and I'm in love, it corners and is fun, cruises and looks good. For those who wish to criticize my bike (namely my mother's ******** boyfriend - long story), we'll take a trip to the dealer, they can pick a bike out and write a check for it. I'll gladly ride it till I wear it out, but as long as I'm paying the friggin' bill, I'll buy what I want and what I feel is a good bargain, enough said! Girly bike, entry level bike, whatever, put your f'ing money up and put a new ride in my laundry room or shut your mouth.
oh yeah, I'm not nearly as pissy about this topic as the post makes it seem. lol
