Just bought my first HD..
Just bought my first Harley --
2005 1200 Custom. 1600 miles. It's mostly stock except for a couple chrome pieces, the windshield, saddle bags, & touring seat. The bags and windshield will probably be coming off soon.
Here's a crappy pic from my cell phone.

RE: Just bought my first HD..
Welcome to the Harley family!
Here's my .02 on the windshield. I don't have one, but seriously wanted one for the first 2,000 miles or so. When I would get on the highway, I just felt like the wind, and turbulence from other vehicles was beating me to death. Consequently I avoided the interstate (and still do, unless I'm just trying to get somewhere fast). After a while, I noticed that the wind wasn't as big of an issue. Then I HAD to put on a dress shirt and tie one day, and discovered my neck had gotten considerably larger. Since overall, I had actually lost a bit of weight, I assumed the larger neck size was from muscles getting a workout from the wind while on the bike.
Then a couple of weeks ago, I put together another interesting tidbit about the wind and high speed riding. The KY state HOG ralley was held just an hour north of me, and since it was a BEAUTIFUL day, I decided to ride up and check it out. KY doesn't have a helmet law, and I never thought I'd ride without a helmet anyway. Long story short I decided to give it a try, just around town, and with all the Harley's there, traffic was at a crawl. Then, I ended up on the interstate (another long story) without my helmet. The reduced wind pull on my head was significant without the helment. Well...DUH... my helmet had one of those small little visors across the top. When I got home, I took that thing off, got a few helmet sickers to cover up the screw holes, and my wind resistance at high speed is really not much at all now.
