Default Iron Short Shots O2 sensor threading...

Me and my dad where putting on my new short shots today, but came to a halt when we the O2 sensors didn't thread into pipes. It was like the threads were wrong. We called our local HD dealer and asked about it in case we were just doing something wrong, but he knew exactly what it was. He said to tap out the pipes because of the chrome on the threading. Relieved that my pipes weren't faulty, we went out to find a tap that would be big enough for it but we didn't find anyone that sold one big enough. So I ask if anyone else has had this issue and what you guys have done in this situation and/or what you would do? If all else fails I'm going to take the pipes to the dealer and have them tap it for me. Thanks in advance.

When i was installing my shortshots i was having a hard time with the o2 sensors myself, i put on some anti sieze on the threads of the sensors and they went on alittle easier, still had to put alot of tourqe on them tho due to the chroming. Try going to sears for the tap and if no luck order it online.

So you just cranked them down? My dad is paranoid that the sensor's threading is just going to get stripped out and I'm going to mess them up. We put som anti sieze on them but its still not helping. Also, does anyone know what size it is for tapping it?

Find the right tap because the chrome will start to Gall up on the threads. If you ever decide to remove them they will not come out easy. Call the dealer and ask them what the tap size is.

I'm thinking about going out in the garage and trying to just get it in there, I called the dealership and they said a new O2 sensor is 55 bucks so it's kind of a gamble.

Dont use the O2 to torque it. Get the right tap. My short shots had the same problem. If you cant find the right size tap, take it to any garage (bike or car) or dealership. they should have the right tap for it.
