Progressive Fork Springs Worth It?
#41
With the standard height Progressive springs, I used the Screamin' Eagle fork oil with my spacers at 3.5 inches. I'm 210 lbs. For the OL, I'll use the regular 3" spacer and the SE oil and see how she likes it. She's about a buck thirty, but occasionally loads her bike up for road trips.
Enjoy the swap.

Let us know how it all goes for you. My springs are still in the box - waiting for some nice weather to get her done! I'll be interested to see what others say about the amount of oil in the tubes. What weight do you plan to use?

I put in 11 oz of Screamin' Eagle Fork Oil that I measured in my RatioRite. My fork lowers and springs were new and bone dry when I poured it in. I can't say for certain that I checked the inches from top, but I seem to have a foggy recollection of poking something in there out of curiousity (let the jokes fly). It must have been OK because I don't remember changing the level. Rides real nice. A turkey baster with a metal tube attached that's 5.5" long makes a good tool for this. Over-fill the fork tube, put the top of the metal tube at the top of the fork and suck out the excess oil - you get exactly 5 1/2 inches from the top. Let us know what you end up with.

That's the link I read a long time ago. Thanks again HarleyScuba.
Got them in tonight. Ran by the dealer to get oil and the socket. They told me they didn't stock tools. (lame)
Wrapped the fork nuts with electric tape. Used a piece of cardboard and a flashlight to measure the oil.
I put the tighter end of the springs in first. Used the 3" spacer that came with the kit. Screaming Eagle Proformance fork oil.
Couple of tips.
Watch from stripping the drain screw, it's Phillips head.
The oil will squirt out a foot or so as you compress the forks when draining.
Have something to fish out the old springs, the stock spacer is pretty big.
Didn't get to ride her much tonight. I did lay on the front break pretty hard, way better than stock. Seems a lot stiffer. Will know better as I get some better rides in.
