Can the clutch cable be disconnected at only the hand control ? 2007 Nightster
I have a 2007 nightster and I want to reroute the clutch cable. I have the service manual and it seems like in order to reroute the cable I have to disconnect it from the clutch inspection cover area first. Is this the case ? Or can the clutch cable be disconnected at the hand control first ? The way the manual is written it seems like you cannot disconnect the cable from the hand control until you have disconnected it from the clutch inspection cover area first. I only need one end to be disconnected to reroute the cable. I just seems like disconnecting it at the control would be the easiest. I have installed Biltwell Frisco bars. Pics are in my profile.

It is easier if you loosen the cable slack adjustment all of the way. Remove the c-clip and the hinge pin. Then slide the whole handle out of the housing and the cable will slip through the slot in the housing. There is a nylon pin that goes through the end of the cable and the lever, you may need to pull on the cable a little bit to get it past the housing to get the cable through the slot. It is hard to explain, but you will see what I mean when you start to take it out. It is a 10 min. job. Just don't loose the c-clip. Reroute cable as needed, then reassemble in reverse. Make sure you adjust your cable slack. And that you can roll the bike in gear with the clutch pulled.
