I have no intentions of doing that. I will however familiarize myself with all the controls as will the wife before we take the class.

That's exactly what I was gonna suggest. Also, get you a parts catalog and dream of what you might want to add. Maybe get a "Ride Like A Pro" video. Oh, and, congrats and welcome aboard.

The dealership made sure I got that already.

Should the day come where we get good enough, the Screaming Eagle 883 to 1200 kit is on the mind. already.

Thanx all for the welcome. Can't wait to go to class.

Cool Aklim !!!!!!!

Your gonna take the MSF course on what,,,Buell Blasts,,Honda rebels,,??
I dunno,,

REMEMBER THIS,,
Pay very close attention In class on how to hold the throttle,,,
Level or lower wrist,,
You get on the Sportster and by mistake are holding HI on the throttle,,
and Roll out,,,well...
I've actually seen bikes run UP a tree with the rider on it,,
the Bike accelerates very fast,,you get G-Forced back,,,
Your wrist straightens out,,and Your at
What we call "WOT"
Thats Wide Open Throttle,,,

After the course,,,
First time you take the bike outta the garage spend some time playin with things.
Then go Spend a Few HOURS In a parking lot.

If you get to ride a few times a week start every ride with Braking drills,,,
Learn how that back brake works when the weight transfer begins..

I'm a weekend rider,,only a year with this Harley.
22 years ago I gave it up,,had lots of road time back then..

I still start every ride with a few good practice stops,,,
Not just normal stops,,,
I warm up the tires,,getter speed up and make the front tire howl
like I'm beatin a dog.
During these practice emergency stops I'm workin the rear brake near lockup.
The weight shifts forward as I squeez the front binders in and I have to ease up on the rear
as the weight comes off It,,,Follow me ?
Your gonna really like the course XD

Now get the ride like a pro V DVD and pay close attention to the chapters about how to pick up your bike & slow speed manuvering. Take your MSF course & practice, practice, practice! Congrats on your new sportster!

Well done. She's a beauty. The "sweet n low" will be very easy to ride, just take it very slow. Best way to go into the rider class with confidence is to ride your new toy as soon as possible (use parking lots). Much less pressure when its only the two of you around. In the class you have to look out for a dozen or more other riders, plus keep your eyes on the instructors. There have been several posts/comments on the forum from experienced riders who prefer not to ride with a group.
