I have used Fram as well, but after reading all the problems I won't again. Problem is, selection around this hick town is very limited. I now use HD filter because it is actually available here. My indy sells it for about the same price as a Fram anyway, and it does seem to work longer before the oil gets dirty looking.

Here's what I use.

Just be careful what you use. The Sporty oil system is based more on volume than pressure. According to my manual, it's 12 to 14 psi. So don't run too restrictive a media or you will be starving it for oil. 30 micron is what they spec I believe.

How much additional oil do you put into the bike?

What benefits can you tell from running the bigger filter with more oil?

- About 4oz extra.

- Extra exterior surface area provides a bit more cooling.
- 50% more filter media means less chance of the filter becoming clogged between oil changes.
- If your like me and punch holes in the end of the filter to drain it before removing during an oil change, the longer filter gets the end of the filter out further from the bike frame and that means less oil drip mess on the bike frame and front motor mount. (oil on the rubber motor mount is not a good thing)

HD filters. From doing an engine tear down, I KNOW they work well.

My dealer never has the longer filter in stock, so I have always just used the regular filter. I'm sure the longer filter would have extra benefits.

+1 on this Willcla, but more oil than the 4oz cHarley listed at a minimum. I typically pour in oil from a five quart jug, so I don't pay attention to how many quarts I actually get in there, but more of where it falls on the dipstick.

At least once or twice a year I wind up ordering parts through one of the on-line discount dealers, like Lake Shore Harley or Zanotti's, at 20% off. I just add on 4-6 filters while I'm at it because the order (at least from Lake Shore) is flat rate shipping, then I'm set with filters for a year or so.

I also use the 90T as WVHog and cHarlie do, I get its equavalent from J&PCycles. After starting it to completely fill the filter I can finish off the 3rd quart. I run RevTech 20w50 I rode today, a little windy and chilly. Oil temp dod not go above 180.
