I absolutely love mine! Handles like a dream, awsome brakes, great low end. It sounds incredible with the FMF Apex slipons too. Yes, I have them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HA0y1PHtauc. I have an 09 XR1200 and a 07 Nightster. The XR gets more attention. My buddy has been riding HD's alot longer than me and he said it's the most fun you'll have on a Harley. YAY!

Thanks for any and all responses.

The xr1200 is heavy on the right side due to both exhaust on same side. If you ride for a long trip 8+ hours use ear plugs in right ear. My right front fork has leaked twice & repaired twice under warranty. I need to take it in again for same problem. Good luck with your choice.

Why would it be noticeably heavier on the right side to to exhaust.. mine are on the same side too.. but I don't notice a weight issue..

My uneducated opinion: if I were to buy another Sporty, it would most certainly be a XR1200X. Problem is, I wouldn't buy another Sporty. I anticipate keeping my XL1200L for a very, very long time and adding other bikes to the garage. For the money, there are a lot of bikes out there that offer everything a XR does, and much more, minus the HD branding.

But, with all of that said, if I had it to do over again, I'd score the XR as my first and only Sportster.

The exhaust cans each feel like old window weights. They are located high near the riders weight. Your exhaust runs long, even & low.
I recomend that the OP get an 09 xr with aftermarket exhaust for sounding better & weigh less. Some dealers have them on the bikes already.

Might I suggest the Torque Hammer exhaust by TWIN Motorcycles. By far the lightest (9.04 Lbs.-a weight savings of 20+ pounds) and with the most power gains but as with any exhaust on an XR will need a tune of some sort be it a piggyback unit like the Patriot Top Fueler or TTS Mastertune. http://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/websho...cid=9649&s=&a=

Great suggestion. Cool photo. This forum beats the other XR forum out there hands down. Thank you.
