Default stock riser/speedo on ape hangers

i wanted to know if anybody has any pictures of the stock speedometer on the 04-up models of xl883c or xl1200c on ape hangers without the reachback riser. i have a set of 18" apes and want to use the stock speedo on them and want to see how it would look and what type of riser i would need because im getting different feedback from my local shops on wether or not i can use it or have to get the upright speedo in between the bars. thanks

I'm doing that to a 2009 XL1200C this weekend. Ditching the stock pullback risers. I'll take pics. It's not a difficult job.

If you use the stock speedo and new risers you will have to flip the speedo cause it will hit the tank. If you flip it it sits almost perfectly flat. It looks kinda weird and will collect water. You will also have to flip the warning lights and such which requires modification to most of the interior components so they are not upside down and backwards. I tried all of the above and was not happy with the final look. I ended up going with 1 1/2" riser and a speedo setup from a low.

Sorry i have no pics but I have an 05 883c w 12" mini apes, and in the next month or so im ditching the stock risers for straight ones. If u use risers of the same height or taller it shouldnt be an issue with the tank. im going with 6". I dont see a problem with it fitting between the bars, as the speedo unit itself is narrower than the overall clamp width. You should be able to use your stock speedo/clamp.

Good luck finding risers that will fit the bolt pattern of the stock top clamp on the C models. I went with a combination of nightster and low parts to make it work on mine.

Unless you use the stock risers or a set of aftermarket risers with at least the same amount of rise, you'll have to flip or relocate the stock speedo. If you do use tall risers, the speedo will not sit at the same angle as stock and will probably collect water on the face. One option is to go with short risers and relocate the speedo to the left frame tube. Joker Machine makes a speedo relocation kit for '04 & up Sportsters. Here is a link to the company's page:

It's a pretty nice setup.
Or you could go with the risers and speedo bracket from a Sportster Low and put the speedo above the bars. You'd have to do a little wiring magic, but it looks almost stock when you finish. I hope this helps.

The OP is just asking about the stock speedo...not the top clamp. If he's asking about the top clamp, that's a no-go.

Well that sucks, I didnt know the bolt pattern would be different, as the clamp part of the speedo unit looks very similar to reg top clamps.
