Default Head Gasket Leaking

So... I take my 2007 1200 Low in for its 10,000 mile service and they found a cylinder head leak. This sort of explains some things, been noticing some power loss and such over the past month or so.

Good thing I have a warranty still in effect which will only cost me a $50 deductible.

What generally causes this sort of thing after only 10,000 miles?

How much would this have cost me had this not been under Warranty?

It could have been a flaw in the gasket. I had one fail at 65,000 miles. I replaced it my self. The gaskets cost me about $40. It took me about 4 hours to replace it.
