Question Finally buying a sportster..

So I'm finally buying my sportster, but I seem to have hit a roadblock. Basically I'm super keen on the XL883N and XL1200N. The problem I've come across is this:

I want the 883 for the lower initial costs, but am looking at having it bored out to a 1200. So taking the cost of said procedure into account do you think that I am better off getting the Nightster instead? I haven't been able to find any prices for the procedures on 2011 models, nor anything down here in Oz to make a decent comparison for myself.

Thanks for any input, and sorry if this is a re-post of an older thread; I've about 2mins to make this post before the boss starts questioning what I'm doing.

I would personally just but the N. I got my 07 with 4k miles, and all parts in sig and it was super clean for $7.9k. Not sure what you want to spend/approved for. I wouldnt think buying an 883 and making it a 1200 would be any cheaper then just buying a N.

There are great deals on CL, Ebay, cycletrader etc on the N right now. Its winter. A lot of guys are selling because it is winter and getting something later. Ive seen a spike in bikes for sales on all sites from summer to now.

If you buy the 883 and open the engine for the 1250 kit you
risk screwups,,,they happen.
Also If you do this 1250 kit you will still have 883 gearing and turn a buzzy 4,200 RPM
on the superslab at 75 mph,,as Opposed to the stock 1200 tranny and Its 3,500 RPM
at 75 mph.

BUT If yer inta drag racing the converted 883 will have some yank !

It was cheaper for me to convert my Iron to a 1200 than buy a Nightster. I have no problem at highwayspeeds. My Iron's comfort zone is 90mph in 5th gear. It wasn't only cheaper to buy and convert, but my insurance is way cheaper too. I love my 883 gearing. I had this scoot up to 110mph tonight and still had plenty of juice left. My scoot loves the higher RPMs.

Once you have the Iron/Nightster you'll be spending big bucks on accessories and parts so my advice would be go with what you LIKE and WANT and more importantly can AFFORD. Doesn't help to buy a more expensive bike and have no disposable income to play with. Got my Nightster 2nd hand 08 model.

I'm sure the 800cc engine has plenty power plus you get the awesome paint and black engine.

Does that help?
