Default Touchy throttle

Hi All,

Have a new 09 Sporty 1200 Custom. Holy Crap, that throttle is touchy!!! I'm just about fly'n off the seat with every little touch. This is my first fuel inject bike. Used to ride a 2000 Heritage carbed. Liked the throttle better on that.

Any suggestions?

Yeah I hear ya,,,Takes a few miles ta get used to It. I went thru the same thing when I got mine.
EFI's have Instant throttle responce.
No Biggie just remeber to use a low angled hand hold.
I promiss you after a few rides you'll come to love that throttle.

Welcome to the world of FI. Just don't crank on it so hard and you will be ok. I use to ride with the friction screw cranked down so it was hard to twist and would hold a speed like CC, but the dealer told me that it's just plastic in there and it will ware it out fast if you keep fricion on it. Just get use to the bike and you will be ok.

Adjust a little slack into your throttle cable. It makes it easier to modulate the initial hit.

btw, i have found that as i got used to it i had to tighten it !!
(not the "cruise drag", but the actual throttle tightness- the two lines that come out of the throttle)
i like a tight and responsive throttle- also have had my cars adjusted too. removed all slack out of all of them.

When I first got my nightster I felt the same way. But once I got used to it, it's no biggie. It's just how it is W/ FI. Initially I was afraid of FI because of that lag between when you hit the gas, and engine has to decide what to do W/ your command. (Computer lag) But this bike doesn't have that. So yeah, it's snappy.
Even though I'm used to it now, it does still catch me by surprise occasionally. Like when I get launched out of the seat from a bump and I'm hanging on so the bike doesn't leave me as I'm flying above it in midair, then I finally hit the seat and my arm twists the throttle down as I hit. Geez that one still gets me.
