neutral start only?? 2007 1200 custom

And that is exactly the point that Zenmervolt is getting at. As a whole, people have become too inconvenienced with the analogues of life. I've parked my bike on a 35* incline hill a couple times. Sure, I left it in gear, but when I go to start it up, it's pretty darn obvious I need to: Step 1. Apply the brakes. Step 2. Disengage the clutch. Step 3. Let 'er crank. It's not intricate, it's not rocket surgery, it should be obvious. Ever checked to make sure your door is locked? It's a learned behavior, because at some point, you probably accidentally left it unlocked, then made a habit of double-checking. It's the same concept.

I've had a couple of times at the gas station when I turned off the bike in gear and when it wouldn't start think to myself, "dammit...battery is dead". But as others mentioned, if clutch is engaged, it'll start even when in gear.
Not sure about anyone else but in MSF course, I was taught to always put the gear in neutral after shutting off the bike. Made it a habit for the most part...I guess I would put it in gear if I park on an incline or decline but never had to do that yet.
