Default Polished Aluminum Care

Hey I have a 2010 883Low with polished aluminum and not chrome, I also live near the ocean and want to protect the aluminum against corroson and oxidation. Does anyone have any sugestions on what I can use on the polished aluminum engine parts that will help protect the metal against oxidation and will with stand the heat of the engine and not cause any damage???

Yeah, black hi-temp paint! (sorry couldn't help myself). I have had this issue on boats, especially on aluminum trailers. There ARE special lacquers designed to adhere to aluminum. I have used them successfully on trailers, but not on high temp applications. They do work however.

There are also special metal waxes that will bond to metal surfaces better than will traditional automotive surface waxes. They aren't as durable as a lacquer but they will protect (and shine) your aluminum better than a car polish not designed for metals. Almost any metal polish will put a quick shine on your aluminum, remove surface oxidation and give a bit of a protectant, BUT it is really hard to get it evenly all over the visible surfaces and truly, to me it usually winds up looking like a half assed attempt. I am hesitant to recommend a brand, but I would point you towards the marine side of the protectant industry as they deal with corrosion in the extreme.

We asked the salesman if it was clear coated and he said no was polished. You can tell it has something on it.

For nearly 20 years, HD has put clear coat on the raw aluminum parts...forks, engine covers, ect...If they stopped using it, it was in the past year or two.

It's called Neverdule and it's in a silver tin. The product is like a wool and you rip some off and rub the part till it gets a black look to it, let it dry for a few and polish it off, works good, but gets your hands nasty.

I use Mothers mag wheel and aluminum polish. Works great for me. Get it at walmart in the auto section. Comes in a small white container for about 3-4 bucks. After all my years in the Military, belive me, I had to find what polished and protected all kinds of metals, and I have found that Mothers was the best for me. I use it on all my aluminum and chrome on my 883 Hugger. Hope this helps.

Don't use Mother's Aluminum Polish on chrome.

It's abrasive. Use Windex or Lemon Pledge on chrome.
A while back I tried using Never-Dull dipped in Mother's. Worked great, but probably no better than one alone.
