Well DER!
Who ever told you a stock (or even street modifed) Harley was fast, lied
Harley are excellent with in their intended use, racing is not an intended use

Don't play the speed game with a sportbike. It's like entering an elephant in cheetah races.

Dude, I had a 1999 GSXR 750 that I built from the ground up. It would smoke any car, cruiser, etc. around here. Up against other rockets, it depended on what bike who was riding. Then I bought a 2006 Limited Hayabusa. It was faster than I could handle. Rode it two years and sold it after I got the fat-bob.

Bottom line: high revving, more hp, much lighter, and gearing. No stock or lightly modded harley can keep up with even the most stock 650+ crotch rocket.

Did you really even think you stood a chance?
Harley- 1st gear just enuff to move it off the line. The rest is noise.
Honda- 1st gear launches off the line while building speed up to 8,000 RPM
Harley-2 gear is a little faster than first, keeps engine from stroking out with idiot at the throttle looking for launching speed.
Honda- 2 gear now reaching 60 MPH at 4000RPM
Harley-3 gear faster than second gear
Honda-3 gear way faster than second gear
Harley-4th gear now at good speed and bikes RPM are leveling out but begs for 5 th gear.
Honda-4th gear hanging around 100 MPH at 5400 RPM
Harley-5th gear bike is happy and now can rest because idiot behind the throttle cannot over-rev RPM"s until next stop light
Honda-5th gear levels off around 115 MPH at 6000 RPM and can ride like this all day.
Ive owned several rice burners with massive engines. Dont stroke your Harley out . You will never keep up with them.

I think that is correct. I know they currently make a cbr600 and cbr1000, they used to make cbr900, cbr929, cbr954.

Way back in the day they made a CB750... but not sure if they ever denoted it as an "R" model.
CBR600

CB750

whoops, here is an actual "older" CBR750

Don't race a Gold Wing 1800; it'll have your lunch.

What I don't understand is why HD hasn't done at least one touring model with a large version of the V-rod engine. Liquid cooling can do a lot for pushing a performance envelope without sacrificing reliablility.

I remember watching Pinks where a guy riding a GSXR 750 (or close to that, but not a 650) take home one of those water cooled Harley hot rods......I laughed my *** off hearing the HD guy making every excuse in the book. But he walked home.....lol

I don't think you're reading the same posts that I am. The ones I'm reading seem to be saying that they're just fine with the hp from their scoots. They didn't buy them to "compete" with jap, italian, or brit bikes. That seems to be the point you're missing. I don't care that my bike is slower than my bud's speed triple or duke. If I wanted to "compete" with them, I'd buy a triumph or duke!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Exactly. I bought my Harley to ride, not race. If I wanted to be the fastest I'd buy the correct bike to fit the bill.
