One more nightster that won't start....
Ok, so I rode 2 days ago and everything was peachy keen. Not a problem anywhere along the way.
Yesterday got all dressed in the cold weather garb (it was 10 deg c), got the bike out of the garage, pressed the starter, it cranked maybe 4 or 5 times, then a puff of smoke came from under the seat (right side) and everything went dead.
I took the seat off and smelled the cpu, didn't smell anything (whew), looked around the wiring, nothing looked burnt or melted.
Took the battery cover off, everything there looked fine, pulled all the fuses, they looked fine, the starter relay looked a little messed up, not really melted but had some discolouration and corrosion.
So I read in another thread swapping out the relays and since I don't have any main power either, I think I may have blown both relays.
Does anyone know how to check them with a volt/ammeter? I'm about an hour and a half away from the nearest harley dealer so I can't just pop down and get two more....
Thanks in advance for any help....
