Made a Points Cover for my Forty-Eight
Been looking for a points cover to replace the silly looking "5" that comes stock on the bike. Didn't find too many that I liked and the ones I did like were way overpriced. Sooooo.....I decided to make my own. I had an old medallion from a key/wallet chain hanging in the garage and I allways have some aircraft grade aluminum laying around so I used the stock cover as a template to make the new one. Here's some pics of how I did it.
First I used the stock medallion as a template on the .063, 6061 T-6 aluminum.
Then I used a circle cutter on the drill press to cut it out.
Next I used the stock one again to shape it to the exact size (used a belt sander) and to drill the mounting holes.
I then drilled and riveted the medallion to the new point cover.

Kinda interesting that HD continues to keep the points cover on bikes that haven't had points in some time. They allways use a cheap and ugly points cover and then sell everyone an overpriced replacement off the wall. Probably a brilliant marketing strategy if you are the company. I know we all just hemmorage money on our bikes but $59 for a points cover is ridiculous.
