Making an 883 sound good
I have read alot about putting new pipes on and how it changes the sound. I really like the look of the troublemakers, but would it make a difference in a 2006 883c? What else has to be done? Does the carb have to be messed with? Once again, I am no mechanic and I will have to have a professional do it. If I take it to a bike shop, will my dealer still work on my bike under the warrantee? I am sure there are other questions, and you all will be able to give a real novice some good advice.
Thanks,
Thanks,

RE: Making an 883 sound good
Wife has a 06 883L. We put SE pipes on her bike and it made a world of difference in the sound. Did not replace the air cleaner and the plugs are burning like the should so there was no reason to mess with the carb. I have done more mods on my bike and have never been questioned when it came time for warranty work to be done on it. After reading here it looks like it all depends on which dealership you take it to is the deciding factor for hassles on warranty work because of mods. If its just the pipes I would say there shouldnt be any problem with the warranty work.
Before you pay someone else to change the pipes you really might want to consider doing it yourself. You dont have to be an ace mechanic to do it. The directions are straight forward. Just follow them and you will breeze right thru it. For me it was a 2 beer job.

I also love the looks of the Troublemaker pipes. But I was looking for a less expensive alternative. I installed cycle shack slipons. I have an 06 883L. It sounds GREAT. No need for any carb adjustments as long as you're just replacing the pipes. You will have to do some carb work, if you go to a better air cleaner. Having said that, to get the sound your looking for you might need to adjust the idle speed, that's a really simple adjustment. Mine was set WAY too high from the factory. If you get the pipes, and want to adjust the idle, I'm sure someone here can coach ya through it. And I agree about the installation. Not difficult at all. I did run into a problem, getting the factory slip ons to "slip off", so for me it was about a 4 beer job.

I don't see why it wouldn't make a difference for you. I consulted with the dealer and the instructions that came with the new pipes and both recommended rejetting the carb. I did the pipes myself but am taking the bike to the dealer this monirng for the rejet. The pipes weren't that hard to put on.
