If you powder coat the pipes then it will seal the pipes off with a plastic media, which can easily prevent the rust issue. My PC guy won't coat exhaust components due to the high heat issues. But if you powdercoat to protect the pipes from the wrap, and you wrap because you want them in black, why not powder coat the heat shields in black? They make satin black PC.

I made the whole pipe except for the muffler. This was right when I finished them...3500 miles ago at the beginning of this summer and it was a quickie job just to ride it. I finally picked up the stuff to rewrap them and they look fine beneath. This bike is my turd/work bike/commuter. I ride the hell out of it, leave it outside most of the time, let other people ride it (this is the ONLY bike I let others ride), ride it in the rain, basically the most abused bike in my stable because it was free. Anyway, when I unwrapped the pipes they were perfectly fine.

So, if you're going to half *** treat them or not treat them at all then expect the worst. But, if treated properly, they will be fine. And my story is my own, not something about someone else's experience or the half *** job someone else did to theirs lol.
Man, that is sweet!!! What year is it?

That's a 2004 Suzuki VL800 (same thing as a C50) with a whole bunch of Harley parts.

I had my pipe ceramic coated and then wrapped and after about a month I noticed the ceramic coat was flaking off of the areas I did wrap. I removed the wrap from the whole pipe and found that all the ceramic coat under it had turned to dust and the raw metal was rusting. I'm not sure what caused this but I'm guessing it was from over heating, the steel almost looked burnt. It looked cool as hell but I will never wrap a pipe again.

Your ceramic coating was sub-par or it was not meant for exhaust heat at all. Ceramic coating can flake off of pipes like that even without wrap.

Agreed. No reason for the wrap ruining ceramic coating. Just a bad job from whoever did the job and not the wrap. Should have got a refund.

X3 on the bad ceram. Should not happen, even with wraps.

I thought it was poor material too, but that doesn't explain why the area away from the wrap looked fine. I guess it doesn't matter, I'm just going with different pipes.
