Default Tank Lift question

I'm making the 2inch tank lift brackets today. Do I have to take the tank off to re route the wires under the tank? The key ignition can stay where it's at right? Is it a hard job to re route all the wires under the tank? Also putting on my coil relocator today.

Although I haven't done this, there are several step-by-step tutorials here on the forum. Try a search and you might find what you need.

hey bikerguy... you don't have to remove the tank... you can look into the following tutorial for some ideas:

Default lift..

You need to raise front of the tank. Use cloth wrapped chunck of 2 X to prop it up.

Tucking all the wire connecters under tank is a tight fit but can be done.

Ignition can stay were it is but the bare bracket looks like crap - I used my coil bracket to remount it.

Good luck, take your time, have a few beers(always helps the patience).

Thanks! Do you know if I can cut the stock spark plug wires since one will be to long and just re screw in the boot?

Default plug wires

I'm pretty sure you can cut and redo the existing wires for your coil relocation. OR goto US Kool lines and order a pair of 10.5" wires in whatever color you want. Check out this pic to see what mine look like:

I originally went with 10" wires, but I think 10.5 would be a slightly better fit.

Have fun

bikeyguy... cutting the stock wires and reassembling the connectors is such a painful experience you'll be taking antidepressants by the time you are done... one option is to buy a cheap ready-to-assemble kit for a 4 cylinder car at a auto parts store... another option is to buy a kit from uskoolines.com .. the simplest option is to order two Harley Davidson P/N 32014-09 which is the rear spark plug cable from an '09 Softail at $7.50 each

Billy Blaze.. thanks for the encouraging words!

Will the stock bars clear? From the looks of it, it's either really close or the bars will hit the tank if turned all the way to the left and right!

lifting the tank actually alleviates the issues with inverted mirrors hitting the tank... go for it!.. :-)
