The Elusive Squeak [solved]
So, I had been having this obnoxious squeaking noise for months. I brought my bike in three times and each time they'd take it out and come back saying they couldn't hear anything. (for some reason only me and a buddy could hear it -- guess we have super hearing abilities or something)
So finally I rode it around until the sound was good and loud. I brought it to the shop, even left the bike running. They took it in back and put it up on the bench, strapped it down, then brought the ***-end up.
They checked wheel alignment. It was okay.
They checked discs for warping. A little warped, but within spec.
They checked the belt. Nothing (chunk taken out of the middle of one tooth)
So they started her up and brought it up to 50 MPH, then pulled the clutch and let it slow down on its own. As it slowed, I heard a loud howling sound and then a few chirps as it slowed down even more. I've got to say that this was the first time in my life I was so happy to hear such a terrible sound. I just looked at the tech with a big grin and said, "DID YOU HEAR THAT! THAT'S THE SOUND!"
Anyway, it was brake dust collecting in the calipers preventing the pistons from retracting the pins all the way, so the pads were rubbing ever so slightly on the discs all the time. He took it all apart and cleaned it up, now all is well. No more squeak.
