Default turn signal malfunction questions...

my wifes 07 1200R has a chopped rear fender with the brake/turn signal mod (like on the nightster). The right turn signal started to flash on and off randomly a few weeks ago and I wasn't able to find any problems so we took to the shop. They said it was due to her not having front turn signals so it was making the rear turn signal malfunction.
First why would that only happen on one side if that was true?
Second... if it is true and I need to put some signals on the front to cure the problem, do I need to put LEDs on the front since she has LEDs on the back to balance the load? (which I probably will put front signals on anyway just for the safety factor)

Thanks in advance for your answers!

I take it that it has worked properly with your current setup for some time?

Thats the interesting part... it worked fine for the first year that we've had the bike and then it just started doing it in the past few months. It's completely random too... it does it most of the time, but then once in a while it will work just fine for an hour or so

It's sounding more & more like the TSSM (turn signal security module), when mine went it first wouldn't cancell from a left turn, then progressed to only working on the right then would not work at all, or work fine, or sometimes just decide to come on all by it's self.
Mine was under warranty and of course worked fine every time I got to the dealer but I was finally able to convince them to install a new one and let me try it, sure enough it has worked fine ever since.
The dealer is wacked about the front signals, if that was the problem it wouldn't have worked up to this point.

I did the same chopped fender/nightster light mod on my '06. I also had no front signals. I ran regular bulbs for a while, then used LED's. Never had a problem until I installed the LED's, though. As soon as I put them in the signals blinked SUPER fast. Put regular bulbs in.... betcha that solves it. Try it for ha-ha's and let me know.....

hotlap... where would I find that security controller? is it something I can remove since we don't use the security system on her bike?

streetfighter... thank you for the suggestion. I might just give that a shot of the fun of it!

On non security equipped bikes it's called a TSM and on bikes with security it's called a TSSM, you can't remove the S from a TSSM.
