I just use the trip meter on the speedo. Set it to zero on fillup. I know about how many miles per gallon I get, so I know when I need to fill up. Pretty simple with no guage.

I HAVE AN 06 1200C, and I do a lot of highway riding and never even look for gas station until I get to at least 170 or 180 miles. I usually hit reserve, on the highway, around 180 miles

4 of my Harley's have 'gas gauges', and they are gas gauges in name only as none of them are that accurate. All they do is give you a 'rough idea' of how much fuel might be left in the tank...

Like others have said use your trip meter. Set the trip meter at "0" when you fill up, and based on the estimated mileage your specific bike gets your trip meter mileage will let you know when it's time to start looking for a gas station.

If it were me I wouldn't go to the trouble or expense of installing an inaccurate gauge.

By the way, some people think Harley only used gas gauges on bikes with fuel injection. That's not true...

My 1996 EVO WideGlide is carb'd, and it also has a so called gas gauge.

I believe they were referring o the kit for sportsters. They only work on fuel injected models.
