Default Sporty is finally getting a new rear shoe...

I was finally able to get the bike over to my indy this morning to install the Metz 880 I've had sitting in the garage for three weeks. It will be a huge relief to not be rolling on a bald D401. I got caught in a big thunderstorm a couple of days ago and it was super sketchy on the toasted Dunlop. The back end was walking around all over the place; not a good feeling.

I'll post my impressions of the Metz once I've had a chance to run some miles on it. I have a 55 mile commute home but I may take the "long" way which sends me down the Blue Ridge Parkway and then off the mountain down Rt. 8. Should be a good test of the new rubber.

FWIW, the Dunlop is completely beat after 8200 miles. It'll be interesting to see how long the Metz lasts.

Nope, not a single burnout. I've never done a burnout on a bike. Mine looked pretty darn good up until about 6000 miles, then it started fading fast. By 8000 it was bald. I keep a pretty constant check on air pressure too.

I do ride the bike hard. Lots of full throttle runs through the gears and lots of aggressive riding in the bends. Probably doesn't help that I'm pushing 230lbs either. It seems like for every "I got 15k miles out of my stock Dunlop" I hear just as many "I had to replace it after 6k miles". <shrug>

You'll like that Metz a lot more than the Dunflop when it comes to handling and tire mileage.

JUST BE CAREFUL on the BRP, all new tires have a coating of "mold release lubricant" on them which makes them slippery at first, and it takes 100 miles or so to wear off.

Good to know, thanks cHarley. Maybe I'll just run it home after work and hit the BRP tomorrow for my commute home. The tire will have over 100 miles on it by then.

The tires will still be "slippery" on the edges until you wear the release agent off the edges, so don't avoid the twisties, just take it a bit easy on the BRP.

Yep, I'm using Bud's. My wife and I both work in Roanoke so it was really convenient. Had her drop the tire off and pick me up at the shop this morning.

Where is Garnett located?
