Do we really need the heat-shields?

I sure did....... I guess your here to help her out right big guy..... I answered a question in this thread and for some reason a few of you feel it's ok to start sh*t with people you don't even know. In real life you wouldn't say a fu*king word to me on the street because most people like you on these types of boards are cowards and only act tough behind a keyboard.
I'm done with this thread and I hope the guy got the answer to his question.

the only reason the heatsheilds are there is so the pipes look good after a couple weeks of riding/blueing/rusting.. aftermarket pipes have better chrome.. there is no way you are gonne burn your pants unless you have plastic pants on cotton and wool dont burn with out a flame.. bare skin is a differant story, your legs might end up looking like mine..
I call bullshit on this. I caught my pants on fire, with stock pipes and no heat shields, while doing about 70 with a passenger. Levis, no plastic, just standard cotton jeans. Not worn out either. Nearly new.
Any idea how much fire loves a 70 mph wind on it? I was very lucky not to get burned. I do wish I had the stock heat shields back now. But I had just taken off drag pipes, and am not sure what model stock pipes I bought. They fit my 99 Sporty 993 perfectly though.
