Default Remove air filter back plate - funky bolts?

theres a weird looking hollowed hex head bolt that looks nothing like the pic in the manual, along with the 3 normal looking bolts. No idea what this is, or how to remove it. Any suggestions?

Really, we do need more information. Year and make of Sportster would be a nice start.

+1 on this. My guess is that it's a TORX head bolt.

The crankcase vents through the hollow bolts on some bikes.
The holes pass into the rockerbox covers.....

The crank vents the same way on all EVO Sportsters.

Use a deep well 14mm socket (or 9/16'). Thats how I take them out.

Mine used to look very close to this.

Then I made these.
