Default sportster exhaust options

hi guys , im looking to change my nightster exhaust next , i like the look of v&h short shot staggered , but ive read that they are not the best exhaust for the bike , due to a massive hole in the midrange torque , i also like the idea of the slip ons as there easy to fit and still keep the back presure and midrange without a intake or fuel pak , any information from XL1200 owners with efi engines would be great , and help me make the right choices, i may do a stage one later but im skint at the mo , so i need good sound advice . which makes work and sound best etc , thanks for your replies

My wife has Python III's on her Sportster and they sound great.

Here's a neighbor of yours...Know him?

I put staggered shortshots on my sportster (07 roadster) - with the standard baffles I was told the bike was too loud for an MOT, fitted quiet baffles which aren't much quieter - but as the dealer that got me the quiet baffles did the MOT it passed ok. I have now got screamin eagle slip-ons fitted - slightly quieter but a much deeper sound. There isn't much of a performance difference unless you ride it like you are trying to get a speeding ticket.

I have the shortshots also! I lovem but yes they are loud and yes they suck on the performance side of things! Also everyone has them too!!! If you like the look try V&H Sideshots or go 2into1 for performance!

khromewerks makes high quality slip-ons, great sound, not too loud at idle and cruise but roars a bit on hard throttle, mine are on since 06 chrome still perfect!! they make one that looks like drag pipes but from reading a too small muffler has similar effect as drag pipes just not as bad.

I had a SuperTrapp Supermeg with a NRHS air cleaner and SEST and made 80hp/80ft with barely any loss in MPG. I traded in my 09 Nightster but have the exhaust in the garage. The exhaust was somewhat quiet up to about 3k RPM. I was running 20 disc..

I've always had real good luck with Bassani. You can get them in black too. They look somewhat like the shortshots but are a better exhaust IMO. Nice deep rumble at idle, open them up and they almost wake the dead.

i went with the v&h strait shot slip ons on my xl1200. when i called vance and hines i asked about the 2 into 2 but the guy said its not the best for a sporty. he said that the strait shots would be the best for a sporty. both the slip ons and the full exhaust are 100 decibels. the stock exhaust was 80 dB. for every 10 dB its twice as loud. i love mine

thanks for the replies . i need to find out what i can get in england at what price , even v&h slip ons come in at £260 , we get shafted on our prices here , any other advice like fitting and running without a stage one will be great , p.s i do like riding fast , you can do 60 mph on a small country road and still be legal ,70 mph legal on A roads and motorways , 80-85 mph on a motorway(freeway) is o.k , 85+ mph might get a ticket , but not always ,100 mph is a ban , my last one was only 7 days though, so performance is important aswell as look and sound thanks again guys , i do like driving slow aswell though or i wouldnt have bought a harley .....lol
