Default Stator

Any one have there stator go bad? Mind has only 60000 miles on it, only putting out about 4 volts. I'm not happy. With all the bikes I've ever owned one never went bad and some of the bikes I've had were brought back from the scrap heap. I've been trasfer to Georgia and I'm renting down here and my wife is still up north and I'm paying the morage there with all of the bills, so the timing of this is just great. Plus all of my tools are up north.

Yep, replaced my volt. reg. around 33k only to find out stator was bad, so replaced it then my starter went up not long after. Major pain in the butt to replace with lots of disassembly.

I have a 93 with just 8500 miles on it. Currently has a bad stator & voltage regulator. One of them went bad & took out the other. I've only had one other bike with the same issues. Just part of the deal...

Your situation is unfortunate. Makes for a bad day.

Yep, lost the first stator at 24,000 miles, and the second stator at 50,000 miles. Next time I'll use a better 3 phase stator and regulator system.

Man the prices on them hurt. lol. Anyone beside Cycle Electric make one. Or do you have a good lead on them?
By the amount of dead stators in here lately we could set up a group buy. lol

JP has the CE type for $499 or join the club and get it for $449.

Cycle Electric is what I've been looking at, but I've yet to find a dealer that stocks the "system" (stator & reg) I need to fit for the 04-06 models, so I can get a price. I'm lead to believe that it's inline with the price for an HD stator and reg.

BUT, you might want to read HERE and then do some searches for additional info. With some fab work for the reg. bracket, the 38 amp 3-phase XB Buell stator and reg is supposed to be nice solution for under $200 in parts.

Here are the Buelll Parts I need for a 3 phase 38 Amp system (verify for your year bike)

29971-02Y is the Stator
y0302.02a8 is the regulator

Someone was saying that running Mobil 1 75w90 gear lube was blowing them.
I don't see how unless something in the lube breaks down or shorts out the wire insulation.

So what do you guys with bad stators run for primary lube?

If you were cheap, you could unwind the wire and rewind it, maybe using better wire (better insulation).

From what I have seen, they look like they were wound by hand, likely in Korea or Mexico....by 10 year olds....

My indy mechanic said something similar...but I don't think he specified a brand.

I'm not familiar with stators at all but I know the one I ordered has a protective coating to help prevent this occurance.
