Plus 1 on going to the dealer. It will cost about 20.00 to order a new one and my dealer took about a week to get it.

be safe JIM

Depends on where you live. My dealer want close to 30 bucks when I wanted an extra key and told me it would take 6 weeks to get one from the factory.
I went to a locksmith and got two extras for under 6 bucks.
If it was me I would remove the key cylynder. Shouldnt take more than a couple minutes. Take that to the lock smith or just order a new key set from JP Cycle. they are inexpensive.

Nothing like having ACE Hardware make a couple of copies, BEFORE you loose your only key.

Default Keys ?

Hi, cHarley does ACE hardware have the Harley Blanks, I went to a local locksmith who told Me if I had the blank He could cut one but He didn't carry it in stock. I have thought about buying one off EBAY, but just riding to ACE ( about 30sum miles away ) would be easier on a spur of the moment thing ? .....WVleo

It may depend on your local ACE, but I've been in several that had them, as well as a (larger) local locksmith.

Just went through this myself.I ended up getting a round key ignition from JP.It was a painless install.Just a little soldering as it wasn't plug n play for my year bike but the wire color codes matched.
