Well when I bought my W&M bags I just lifted up the seat threw em on the fender and used the tie downs on the bags to tie it to the bike. I use them everyday( I ride to work any day I can) and have had no problems with them.

In reply to saltlick, you, just remove the hex bolt and the seat should lift up enough.
To cosmic, I tied em where ever I could of course, I'm not worried about looking good just keepin those things from floppin around. I tied the bottom of the bag to the bottom of the shock mount, the rear tied to the turn signal bracket and the forward part of the bag is tied to the frame I believe. Now the only thing that sucks about this is the bags are detachable with the zippers but when they are tied down, they are really just on the bike for good unless you want to take the ties loose everytime. The bags aren't huge and are slanted so they fit behind the turn signals just great.--joey

I went through this same scenario when I bought my bike and some saddlebags. I wanted saddlebag supports but could not locate any that did not require rear turn signal relocation. My bags are also Willie & Max and are small enough where they don't hit the pipes or any important moving parts on the bike. I just throw them over the bike under the seat and use the strings that came with the bags to tie the rear of the bag to each rear turn signal. That's all I do. Bags don't flap around or move and are easy to remove when I want to wash the bike.

Sportster
figured since they came for free id mount them, they are willie and max bags. i get tired of trying to figure out ways to stuff things in all my pockects all the time. why do people say not to put bags on sportsters? is it because it ruins the look? or because alot of people dont think sportsters are not real harleys so they shouldnt have saddlebags either.??......dam i never knew there was so much grief given to sportsters. who gives a crap, you put saddlebags on so you can carry **** around. wow dammit people are stupid.
The idea of motorcycling is ENJOY YOURSELF. Remember,no matter what bike you have, there will always be a bigger one or has more gadgets than your bike.

Hard leather throw-overs worked fine on my '91 for about a year. Then the weather started to get to them and they sagged into the rear shocks. I bought a set of Harley bag supports and fitted them. Didn't have to alter the rear indicators at all. Bags are on five years now and doing O.K. I don't think they spoil the looks of my bike, and they are always useful for carrying crap around with me, LOL.
