Default turn signal out- what to check?

my left turn signal is lit because the lights are on, and it blinks when i hit the left turn signal button. the right one is not lit, but does blink when i hit the right turn signal button.

i tried replacing the right signal bulb, and the new one also is not lit.

now i am trying to remember whether they should be dimly lit when the headlights are on (the left one is and the right one isnt)...

can someone tell me whether the turn signal bulbs should be on when the headlights are on?
and then, if so, thoughts as to where my wiring problem might be? or if not, then it would be the left one being on that is the problem- and what to check for that?

just learned that the turn signals should be on- they are "running lights".
this means that its the right on that is the problem. the right running light is not on and changing the bulb did not fix it.

The front ones are running lights, the rear ones are not. If they are not lit, its probably a wiring problem.

Did you change anything? i.e. bars, signals, etc. Do you have a voltmeter?

i did have the gps wiring moved from left side to right side. i assumed that they should not have had to mess with hook ups- maybe i was wrong.

do not have a voltmeter-

Could be a fuse, but unlikely if the turn signal works. Might be worth a check. Did you change the bulb? Some of the bulbs have 2 filaments, one may blow, but the other keeps working, worth a check (just hold the bulb up to the light, you'll see it. ) Might be a connector, under the seat, trace the wire back from underr your fender to a plastic connector, check that's tight. Try unplugging the connector and replugging it, look at where the wires enter the connector (both ends), are they all pressed in firmly?

You can't switch types of bulbs. Dual filament bulbs have staggered pins on the side of the bulb. Single filament bulbs have pins that are both at the base of the sides. Can't mix them up.

have changed the bulb- and did try the wrong one first!
new bulb has the same problem, so its gotta be a wiring issue.
i dont mind wrenching a bit, but wiring isnt my thing. time to visit the mechanic!
