Default What's the difference in these tires?

So I stopped at Harley dealership and was quoted at $230 installed for Dunlop D401 and from another local dealership for $190 installed for Dunlop D402. What is the difference between the two? Is one better than the other in rain, or does one last longer? Any help would be great. http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/tire...egory.asp?id=2

The 402 is a alpha series (size) tire. The largest (widest) size it comes in is MU85 which equals a 140 width.
The Dunlop 401 is a metric series (size) tire and comes in a 150.

If your Sporty is a 2004 or later, it's made for a 150, which would be a 401.

The 402 tires do have a higher load rating, as they are made for heavier touring bikes.

I'm running the stock 401's
So far they are fine.
I do Twisties,,they stick
I do Rain,,they stick
I do Big speed,,they track
From what I've seen and Learned from other riders
once you get the Air pressure right they perform just fine
and last along time.
A bit slow to heat up and not very stable at Sportser reccomended
pressure's of 36 rear and 30 front.
They work fine for me at 38 rear and 33.5 front.
One rider I know just replaced the set of 401'
he had at 12,000 miles with the 404's.
Only real diff is the 404's don't say Harley on the side.
I'm cautious about the ME 880,,been hearing alot about Low wet traction.

X2 with Osco...I found the pressures were a bit low and mine now have just under 12,000 on them and still have a couple more months in them before I consider replacement. I run exactly the same except for +2 when I add 2 psi to the rear.

404 rear has 9/32" tread depth. 401 rear has 10/32"tread depth. may make a difference in tire life for some. Whether it's worth the price delta is up to you.
