Not sure what bike you have however, on the Nightster (my year anyway) the lights are in the clamp. So when the speedo is removed and clamp replaced with the one you suggested it leave no lights in my case.

Joker has a new relocation bracket with the idiot lights in the bracket....they are 225.00
pretty steep but probably the route I will go.

Oh yeah, those lights. I posted a picture but ask you end up doing is just using double sided tape to tape it in front of the clamp

Yeah those lights are in the speedo, then the dummy light or whatever they call em has the Left and Right signal lights, check oil light, and some other one I"m sure..heres a pic.

That first BLACK nightster on here.... Dude - that is one SORRY hack job. At least round off the edges of your clamp.....

You could always do what Hecklerboy has done but the way I did it, you'll always have the option to go back to that stock look if you ever feel like it. Also, I dont have a lot of tools around my house, I have a cheap 20 dollar kit that has a ratchet set, a few wrenches and a few screw drivers, so as far as customizing my bike, I need to keep it real simple. The only thing that cost me a good amount was the top clamp but like I said, you can find some cheap ones out there. Also get some hockey tape, someone else here suggested it and it works pretty well when it comes to wrapping exposed wires.

yeah.. i hear ya.. i'm in the same boat.. i'm just not jumpin' into anything until i find the right parts and i'm able to get my scoot looking the way i want it.. thats why i love this site.. it's easy to bounce ideas off other people and see what will work and what won't.. good luck.. post some pics of your bike when your done
