Default 883 idle speed

I have an 09 883L and I just installed a tach. Would someone please tell me what RPM an 883 should idle at cold/warm?

1000 +- 50 rpm when warmed up. After initial start up ~ 1300.

The ECM takes care of the idle on 07 and newer Sporty's. I installed a Thunder MAx and set the warm idle to 890 RPM. Can just every now and then get the famous Harley lope. Seems like about 750 RPM would sound very nice. HD recomments about what bwana1 said - and don't know why they would want it to idle so fast??? Any answers to that?

With your Harley "lope", you are not getting enough oil pr to lube the top end.

+1 on oil pressure and also its hard to get EFI anything to idle low and "lope" like a carb, whether it be a big block V8 muscle car or a motorcycle

Your oil pump ceases to pump oil at under 960 rpms.

So, is this something we Gotta put up with? Or can the oil pump be modified or replaced with a more linear unit. Kinda seems like a design screwup. If someone could come up with a good fix I'd bet they could make some bucks!!

You'll have to put up with it. It's because, in the Evo engines, the oil pump is gear driven. Thus, it's capacity to build pressure and pump oil is directly related to the gear ratio between the engine and the pump drive. As xFreebirdx said, below the factory recommended 950rpm, you will NOT get oil to the top end. Any operation below that speed and you are risking major engine damage.

interesting, as I run my bikes @ 800 RPM idle (minimum allowed by SEST) and the oil light stays off, also zero problems so far (31000km and 12000km)

cheers
