Default Air Filter change options for an 08 XL883L

I am 5'3" The oval filter is just in the way of my leg.

What options do I have that are easiest on the pocket book for now?

I can purchase a barely used SE Heavy Breather for very cheap, BUT, does this mean I have to download a stage 1, this likely means much more cash?

I really need to find a sensible and easy on the pocket book solution to the stock filter setup.

If you have any guidance I would really appreciate hearing from you.

My bike is an 08 XL883L

.

Most aftermarket air cleaners out there are considered "high flow" and would essentially require an EFI tune.

Amoung other performance companies like S&S, NRHS fabricates their own custom air/cleaner that is just a great unit and it can be ordered with an offset to help clear your knee. At about $200.00 it is not cheap as it is for improved engine performance applications and it does do the job! I feel that this unit falls under the must change the Fuel Injection map but ASK the guys at NRHS. They are great people to talk to and may be able to offer some suggestions for your situation. Good luck with your quest and ride safe out there!

the heavy breather is going to give you the most knee room. Probably will have to have it retuned/reflashed

Thanks so much everyone. I just found a screaming eagle heavy breather with 200kms on it for a 150.00. Now I will save for the stage one upgrade.

Not sure if you already bought that heavy breather but... cheaper solution, you could keep your stock filter and remove the ham can. That's what I did when I installed my s/e air cleaner, it gave me better clearance for my knee. The bike also feels more symmetrical too now that my right knee isn't sticking out further than my left when hugging the tank.

If you're letting more air in the engine, then you should have the bike tuned. It comes pretty lean from the factory and adding a high flow air filter is just going to make it more lean. Better safe than sorry. Which leads me back to saying, just keep the stock filter for now and remove the ham can... That is, if you don't mind the look and it's free!
