Considering whether or not to wear a full face helmet? There is a lot of different variations from full face to no helmet. Choose the Proper Protective Equipment (PPE) that makes you feel comfortable. Some factors to consider:

Real Harley owners dont wear full face helmets?

I have already replied to this thread, but feel compelled to do so again.
Two wheel vehicles (our bikes) are inherently more dangerous than most any other vehicle on civilian roads, off road, and anything in between. I believe that each rider is entitled to assess their own risk in the equipment they wear or don't wear, and I would be the last to comment on "over doing it" or "under doing it". I just know that I value my skin, head, and all other body parts probably more for those who love me than myself. Loved ones depend on me, and any accident causing me bodily harm and/or incapacitation jeopardizes that dependence I have promised them. The last thing I want is to be a burden to them, or worse, not be there for them to depend upon. Therefore, I dress accordingly every time I ride and I care not about what others think of that.
I am amazed at this thread now having 971 replies because most everything you could say on this topic has been said, and in some cases, repeated (some ad nauseum) in this thread.

A professor of info@ex-500.comscience pointed out that the costs of caring for injured motorcyclists increased after universal helmet laws were passed.
It's cheaper to bury people than keep them in wheelchairs for the rest of their lives.

2) There are dozens of studies on the Internet that all point to the much greater risk of sustaining a long term head injury from a motorcycle accident if you head is not protected from a helmet. Common sense would also indicate this.

It amuses me that this thread keep being dug up. As to helmets. We put ours on when a tornado passed a half mile south of our house because anything to protect your head is better than nothing. Hey they serve a design purpose and they do a great job doing just that. Do you think a professional auto or cycle racer would race without one? That pretty much sums it up. There is only one guarantee, if you were offered the choice of how you want to hit your head on the ground and the two choices are with a helmet or without. 100 percent would choose with. Common sense outweighs how bad *** you might think you are.

And the KEYWORD iiiiissssssssss "RACING"
Big difference from joy riding the highways. A counter to your statement would be, why don't motorists on the roadways wear helmets in there "cages" when every auto racing organization requires it and the racers do it without question??? Would love to hear your answer.
You probably think taking guns away from law abiding citizens will stop gun violence too.
When I race I do wear full face. (I am quite partial to Shoei). and no not on the Harley.

Maybe the military should do away with body armor and helmets too?

1) There is no recognized science as actuarial science and no professors teaching it. Actuaries are insurance agents who take a an employer sponsored course lasting a few months. You can however obtain an undergraduate mathematics degree at most universities in the mathematics of statistical analysis and risk assessment.
