Default 08 883 custom. red key light ?

This has come on twice in the 11000 miles I have driven. It happened at the same location and while coasting. I was driving to camp and 1 mile before their is a long steady decent. The road is a mix of old broken asphalt and dirt/sand and gravel. Coasting is the best way to go down. When I do this the red key light lights up. When I get to the bottom of the hill and put it in first the light then goes off. Any ideas? Thanks rich

Has done it when it was all stock and after full stage 1.

The red key is used by the immobilizer part of the security system on some Harley bikes. If you have one on it it is just an indication that the system is chacking for the rfid key. If you do not have a sec sys installed then i have no clue why it should light up... I hope that is a bit helpful at least.

Your FOB batteries might be dying.

check for codes, probably 'low battery' error code.

My wife just told me the same thing yesterday about her 09 883L. She said last year we were out riding, going down a long hill, she pulled the clutch in most of the way (I'm assuming that's what you're doing) and the key light came on. I'd be more inclined to think it's just some kind of "safety" thing.
Sorry dude, I guess you're putting it in neutral, not just holding the clutch in.

Happened to me a few weeks ago. Turned out to be the clutch switch which prevents you from starting in gear, however, it's not really a big deal since I always start in neutral and always pull the clutch in when starting. I believe it was a code B1154. Oh yeah, it was the same sceanario as yours that triggered it.

Haven't seen it myself but I remember reading on here a while back that it turned out to be something in the wiring to or the socket of one signal light, maybe the bumpy road is vibrating causing one signal to loose connection, the key light and signals are connected thru the TSSM so I guess it's possible.

Can't remember if I was in n or gear with the clutch in. I have no alarm system but do have lojack. Battery is always on a maintainer.
