Default Yeah, I'm cheap

OK, so I'm too cheap to buy a $25 metal side mount license plate mounting bracket. I decided to mount it right to my solo bag. I'm working on attaching the little LED license plate lite to the lid of the solo bag... kinda like a glove compartment light, I figure I have a lite and a wire, I should use it for something. What do you think? Am I being too thrifty?

dude "thrifty" creates the best bikes. i know a guy who has a yam 650 thats hand-built from junk. it won 2nd place in its class at the smokeout bike show.

the people who pass negative judgement on thrifty mods are stupid. fckem.

Go for it. I like the things people come up with when thinking "outside the box."

I like it, it makes the bag look like it wsa built with that on there. It is the at home ideas that are the best since it is a one off design that no one else has, that is the true definition to custimizing your bike. I now need to think like you and find a place to mout my DOD base decals for getting on to base without having to put them on the bike.

I don't know how big they are but could you use that flat sticky backed magnet stuff (available at office supply stores for business cards) and just slap them on the side of the tank while on base and put them in your pocket as soon as you leave?

Maybe you can laminate them and glue magnets to the back. Then they'll be durable and easily removable.

Here is a picture of the DOD decals and the MARSOC sticker i also have to have to get on my compound. the over all length is about 8 inches and the height is about 6in.

I was thinking about just putting it on the back of the plate holder but i think that my leg will block it when riding up to the gate.

Or maybe gr8stdane can just ride over to Jacksonville NC and make a plate that can attach to my front forks in a sexy black sort of way.
