Default advice on rear shocks

I am considering changing out the rear shocks on my 99 custom. I'm not sure of the stock shock lenght because I'm not sure the existing shocks are original. The eye to eye dimension apppears to be 11 3/4". I have not been able to find the stock size info as of yet. Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket shock? I know about progressive, but I heard someone say they weren't worth the money. All info about the topic at hand is welcomed. lol BTW. the bike is already lowered and does not have a lot of clearance now. I am not opposed of going a 1/2" longer eye to eye.
Thanks,
John

The Road King air shocks are 12" and can be found used real cheap (I got mine with only 2000 KM for $60.00), I highly recommend them.

the longer the shock, the more comfortable the ride- softer feeling shocks are more important for your +2 than for you, imo.
i just had new works put on my bike. very easy to adjust and nice ride for me alone or for 2 up. but very much not cheap! as you see above, there are cheap alternatives but works performance for our bikes can run $700 or more.

I bought a like new set of chrome Progressives of eBay for $90 and they are worth every penny. Mine are shorter than stock and still give me a better ride than stock. Haven't tried the RK shocks, some folks say they are better than Progressives, not sure about that as I haven't tried them. Alot of people bag on them because of cost IMO but they sure seem to sell alot of them and there is alot of folks with them so they must not be all that bad......
