Default Oil Filter Question

I read a thread the other day about the proper oil filter application. This got me to thinking about the filters I use. I just puchased a Drag Specialties part #0712-0009 for my 99 883/1200 custom. I can't find any info about it other than it fits my model and that the big twin application is a 10 micron filter. I am curious about what micron rating I should be looking for and if the filter I have is right. Any info would be greatly appreciated
thanks,
John

I believe the HD filter is 30 micron.

Most filter manufactures don't list their filter micron specs. The EVO Sporty requires a 30 micron filter and why HD filters are one of the few parts I buy from HD instead of a substitute brand.

Warning: There is a difference between a filter that "FITS" and the correct filter for your motor.

You can use either of these, the most expensive of which, the large chrome one, is about $8.00.

Thanks cHarley. I knew there was more info to be had. I paid $13.95 for the drag Specialties filter I bought from my indy yesterday. If I can't find out the micron rating for the one I have, I guess I'll be making a trip to the local HD. Thanks again.
John

BTW, does the larger filter require a tad more oil in the tank because of it's larger size?

Yep, in addition to the HD being a good quality filter (it's made by Champion), the price is quite reasonable IMO.

The larger (-90T) filter has 50% more capacity than the standard -77A. I pre-fill it with 6oz instead of the 4oz called for with the -77A.

BTW, I run the -90T year round, not just for the added capacity and additional filter surface area, but being longer, it's easier and less messy to drain because it comes closer to clearing the outside of the frame. I punch holes in the end of the filter at the 6 o'clock and 12 o'clock positions to drain the filter before unscrewing it. Very little mess that way.

Thanks! Looks like I will get a chance to spend my gift card sooner than later.

Does anyone know the microns for the K&N filter? - I bought 2 but now I`m having second thoughts about using them.
