Default Break in and 1K mile service?

Hey guys I had a thread on here a little while back about 1K miles service and oil type.Basically I was told by the guy who sold me the bike that at the 1K service I could pay the differance in the price of the oil(dino to synthetic)and filler up with synthetic.Well thats about 4 bucks a quart and thats all it would cost me since first service is free.Anyway life has finally slowed down enough to scheduale my service(few hundred miles overdue). The service advisor informs me that putting synthetic in right now would not be a good idea since the rings have not yet seated, and the syn oil will keep them from properly seating.I don't know alot about turning wrenches but if the rings hadn't seated in the first 50 miles I figure they aint going to anyway am I right?Do you think he is blowin smoke to keep from selling synthetic oil at 4 bucks a pop or are there any truth to his statement? Also I noticed today that one of my rubber vent tubes that run from the top of the head to the air cleaner is busted and cracked will this cause any problems if I ride it like that untill I get the bike in the shop for service? Thanks Roger

I put synthetic in at my 1,000 mile service (I did it at 1,500, don't hurt me). Hasn't been an issue and I don't see it becoming one.

Go with Amsoil. Syn 3 turns to the consistency of water. Lot's of top end noise too.

harley had a tech bullentin stating to use syn3 after the 1000 mile service. and if you can get syn oil for 4 dollars a qt, good price. i use mobil 1 vtwin 20/50 syn. just use a quality branded oil, youll be fine. i also believe it is stated in the owners manual to use syn oil and oil service intervals at 5000 miles using syn oils. lastly, the recommended break in mileage is 500 miles. the 1000 mile service is to dump the oil from a fresh engine and to supposedly thoroughly check bike/fastners.
