Default New Velocity Stack intake

Here's a few pictures of the Velocity Stack and crankcase breathers i am trying out on my bike. Wanted to do something different from the standard breather kit.

The velocity was from ebay for about $65 It was chrome so it got painted black. The breathers are from Autozone, $9 each and were painted black as well.

I'm taking it in for the first service on the 30th and will be having the Stage I download done as well. Am i safe to ride it until then with the intake and no tune or should i go ahead and put the stock AC back on?

Sorry for the crappy cell phone oictures, it is the best camera i have

You need to have it tuned to the intake. More air = lean.

Your going to burn a hole through your pistons as it sets.

Is there an air filter or SS screen inside the stack?

There is a SS screen in there, no filter.

I figured it would be bad but i was not sure how bad. I had a mustang in the past that i ran un-tuned for weeks after doing a full exhaust/intake and it ran fine. After tuning i of course changed the oil, plugs and ran a can of seafoam through to "clean" things out. I guess these bikes are a little more sensitive?

That set up looks cool for sure, but like was said you will need tuning here real soon and I am not a fan of not having an air filter. Ever notice how dirty an air filter gets? Yeah all that crp will be going right into your engine-not good. Well do what you want-it's your bike.

+1 - An unfiltered stack may be fine on a race bike where you're rebuilding the motor all the time anyway, but I wouldn't run one for street use.

The newer air cooled HD motors are set pretty lean from the factory. More air without a tune = dangerously lean.

Thanks for the advice guys, guess i'll be puting the stock filter back on until the 30th.

Any ideas to get a filter in there or just go buy a filtered stack? Does anyone make a flat "puck" shaped filter i could drop in there and tack to the inner wall of the stack?

Moustache.... man... no filter is bad... imagine a snail crawls its way in overnight..

I don't believe there is a puck shaped filter for velocity stacks, I imagine the suction from the cylinders can eventually suck in the filter...

I am pretty happy with my velocity stack + air filter.... it works well... I got it on ebay for about $200 with filter and breather kit...

BTW... your idea for the breather looks really cool.... it looks racy...

Joe, There's a screen between the stack and intack butterfly so i dont see the engine being able to suck it through the screen. Depending on what i find i may be getting the filtered velocity stack from ebay and just selling the breather kit that comes with it.

Harleyscuba - I got them at Pepboys (not autozone) not sure of the part number but i can get it for you. I wanna say they were about $9 each give or take a few cents
