What is the correct compression ratio? Meaning a static ratio?

I'm in Utah at a high altitude. Generally, with my Solex carbed BMW which is a 10.5:1 compression and has a recommened 91 + octane rating for fuel. Have found as have others that at higer altitude we can get away with an 87 octane rating without pre-det.

With the altitude factor in mind, what would the the optimal compression ratio for me Sporty?

Came across a well written article on www.harley-riders-guide.com/harley-davidson-compression.html .

Thought I would give it a share. And thanks www.harley-riders-guide for such a wonderful, informative article.

check out this site, it will explain a lot of what you are looking for: http://www.nrhsperformance.com Dan has done incredible things with stock 883 engines to get them to outperform 1200 models.

Thanks but doing a vanilla conversion, they are a little to "upscale" for me. Just want a solid understanding of what is going on, they do provide useful information geared for their product and services although if you want to go that direction.
