Default Sportster Oil Filter

I have a 2005 1200C Sportster and went to get an oil filter. I have always used HD Part No. 63796-77A since I bought it new. The parts guy gave me a 63798-99A which is the same filter that fits my RKC. I questioned him and he said that they were the same. Any suggestions?

One may be a larger filter - holds more oil - better cooling.

search for it and you will see many discussions on this. The search feature is your friend.

Charley has reccomended using 63813-90T's many times. It is about twice as long as the normal filter.

Its likely filter that was suggested is the same way.

The filter they gave you (63798-99A) is a 5 micron TC filter.

The correct filter for an EVO is 30 micron. For the Sporty, that would be the standard 63796-77A or the extended capacity 63813-90T.

I won't use a 5 micron filter on my TC engines, let alone my EVO and EVO Based engines..

The fact that the -99A "fits", doesn't make it the correct filter for an EVO.

I have always used the 63796-77A in the past. This is the first time I have been given this filter for the sporty. I questioned the parts guy, but you know how that goes. I am going to take it back and swap it.

Thanks
