Default Broken Throttle Cables

I am having a nagging throttle cable problem hopefully someone can help. 02 sportster with a Mikuni HR 42 Carb. The throttle cable keeps breaking right at the throttle approx. 1/2 inch from the throttle end. Has anyone had and solved this problem? Thanks.

Does your throttle have a stop that stops you from turning the throttle all the way open?

If it does, adjust it so it stops before the carb is all the way open.

I am not sure if it has a stop, it seems to break on take off, it happens twice per season always at the worst possible time.

Complete guess/brainstorm here, but are you putting the correct angled throttle cable on? I have a 45 degree angle on my throttle/idle cables, instead of the newer 90 degree cables. (talking about the "noodle" that screws in to the throttle/grip assembly)

If you needed a 45 degree noodle but put on a 90 degree noodle, it might be too much of an angle and could snap the cable.

Just a guess.

Thumbs up

Thank you, I am going to swap it out with a 45, a buddy also suggested finding a Mikuni spring with less tension, thanks again.
