pre-2004 rubber mounted Sportster -- engine vibration
How much engine vibration does a 2000 model XL1200 get? Is it completely bone jarring at highway speeds of 70-80 mph? Is it so much that it makes you not want to ride it at those speeds for too long?
I have a line on a 2000 Sportster, but do not want to take the long drive out to see it if the vibration is that wicked.
Thanks for the advice/input ahead of time.

I wouldn't call it bone jarring...but they will buzz pretty good....My wife doesn't care to ride much faster than about 70 on her '02 1200C. It's really pretty subjective thought...some people have a higher tolerance than others.... You will definately feel it through the bars.... tingly hands after a period of time is a given....

I've heard a lot about vibrations in the sporty series, and I dont have anything to compare it to, but I dont find the vibrations to be bad. I've had the bike up to 85 for bursts to pass trucks on the freeway. With wind blowing, traffic, pot holes, and the truck I diddn't even notice vibration. More so than vibration in my hands is the shakey mirrors. This being my first bike i'm not used to not being able to see the vehicle behind me clear enough to tell make and model (I like to know if a police cruiser is near me). Above 50 or so the mirrors begin to shake and shimmey. Even at high speeds I can always tell if a vehicle is there or not, just not much detail.
EDIT - Bah, diddnt read enough of the OP. I guess the vibration on my 05 isnt a lot of help when talking about 04's and earlier.

I usually ride two lane back roads so 50 to maybe 65 max usually. The few times I have been on the highway anything over 65 seems like it is going to launch me off. Windsheild, no windsheild doesn't seem to matter I'm shackin baby. 2003 1200C

Well it puzzles me greatly that the rubber mounted engines cause so much bar vibration. I get about the same on my rigid mount 91, but it actually smooths out at select speeds above 50 mph. Why rubber mounts if they make the problem worse?
What gives here?

I was wondering why so much vibration in the bars as well. The mirrors on my o6 are very blurry between 52 and 65 mph. After that and at 50 mph the mirrors are clear. I either drive 50 or 70 Mostly 70 much more fun!!
